Reports

Date: March 14, 2317
Location: Indian Lake Compound, Adirondack Park, New York
Genetically Advanced Human Experimentation
Codename: Indian Lake Project
Observer: Dr. Marcus Andrews
Subject: Unit 8-71

Subject is Unit 8-71, a twenty-one year old female. Results of cognitive tests reveal that 8-71 scored very high in Reading Comprehension and Verbal Aptitude. Subject has a special proficiency with languages, and displayed an affinity for the decryption portion of counter-intelligence training. Scores for Conceptual and Practical Mathematics were above average. This indicates that 8-71 has a logical and detail-oriented thought process.

Her physical conditioning is progressing at a slightly accelerated rate. This specimen is in top physical shape and her level of fitness is extremely high. Her martial arts and hand-to-hand combat training are nearly complete. Her weapons and artillery training is advancing at a normal pace. Note: while 8-71 has nearly 98% accuracy with a hand gun, in combat simulations she will only use it as a last resort. This may denote a certain aversion to unprovoked extermination. Assignment as an assassin could be problematical.

8-71 displays sufficient ability with computer-based systems and technical training, but no particular interest.

The judgment of the observer is that Unit 8-71 be utilized as a covert field operative specializing in encryption/decryption and code breaking.

Re: Discontinuation of Indian Lake Project

After careful consideration of recent events, and taking into account the last several sets of monthly reports sent by your Project Coordinators, it has been decided that you and your colleagues are to cease any and all new experimentation on the Indian Lake Project. Further, all results of prior experimentation are to be destroyed along with all records of the project. An ERASer team will arrive at the Compound in two days to facilitate the purging. Your full cooperation is expected. Once the eliminations are complete, you and the others on your team will be reassigned with the understanding that Indian Lake never existed.

Re: Hell in a handbasket

Well this is a royal screw-up, no doubt about it. Did you see Dr. Whitehead this morning when he made the announcement? Looked like he was buggin out, not to mention half in the bag. Did you hear how he kept muttering under his breath, calling the GELFs his ‘children’? The man is seriously losin it. Personally, I can’t wait to get outta here. Those genetic super-freaks give me the creeps anyway, and after what happened with Dr. Henderson, I refuse to be left alone with one.

Dr. Whitehead called it an ‘aberration’, he said it would be unrealistic to expect every specimen to be perfect. I thought that’s what this whole damn experiment was about! Making a perfect super-human who’d do whatever you told it to. I heard that the incident with Henderson wasn’t the first, either. Supposedly, a while back one of the 6 Units went nuts during a SimCom session and began trying to kill other GELFs. Then, a 7 Series tried to kill herself. And what about the rumor that the entire 4 batch had to be scrapped while still in the juvenile stage because early psych tests all indicated severe sociopath tendencies?

Dr. Whitehead has always kept certain reports of his own a secret, and most of us think they reveal that the GELFs are all eventually going to go mad, that the enhanced mental capacity results in a greater risk of a mental breakdown. And now his little pets are malfunctioning and the U.S.N.M. wants to terminate the experiment before the whole lot of them snap and kill us or each other.

This whole project was a mistake, right from the start. Whose freakin idea was it to play God, anyway?
